"Murder at the Altar" by Terry Phillips based on the 1933 assassination of Archbishop Tourian

Synopsis

On Christmas Eve morning in 1933, the head of the
Armenian Church in America, Archbishop Ghevont Tourian,
is stabbed to death with a double-edged butcher
knife as he begins Sunday services.
His infamous murder in a little New York City church
s witnessed by hundreds of parishioners – among them,
a newspaper reporter named Tom Peterson.

The next day, this story is splashed on the front page of every major daily in Manhattan. And no wonder. Not since the assassination of
Thomas à Becket has such a high religious leader been slain in a house of worship. This gruesome homicide shatters the Armenian
community and confounds the cops. Was it a terrorist attack to silence a political adversary, a KGB plot to discredit anti-communists in
America, or simply a tragic turn in an ancient, bitter dispute?

Armenia Tree Project's Mission Statement:
Armenia Tree Project (ATP), a non-profit program based in Watertown and Yerevan, conducts vitally important environmental
projects in Armenia’s impoverished and deforested zones and seeks support in advancing its reforestation mission.

Since 1994, ATP has made enormous strides in combating desertification in the biologically diverse but threatened
Caucasus region. Over 2,500,000 trees have been planted and restored, and hundreds of jobs have been created for
Armenians in seasonal tree-related programs.

ATP works to further Armenia ’s economic and social development by mobilizing resources to fund reforestation. These vital
new trees provide food, wood, environmental benefits, and opportunities for economic growth.

Our goal is to assist the Armenian people in using trees to improve their standard of living and protect the global environment.
In so doing, we are guided by the need to promote self-sufficiency, aid those with the fewest resources first, and conserve the
indigenous ecosystem.

ATP works on three major program initiatives:

1) Planting Trees at Urban and Rural Sites
2) Environmental Education and Advocacy
3) Community Socioeconomic Development and Poverty Reduction
