As I continued exploring new things and running into new adventures I began to realize how much it
was important keep my Armenian roots alive. I am blessed and thankful to be born as an Armenian. As
I was growing up, I have always been interested in getting involved with my fellow Armenians,
especially with a group of people that have the strength and determination to keep the Armenian
culture alive.

Being Armenian and living in Fresno, I tried my best to find ways to get involved in the Armenian
community as much as possible because I did not want to lose hope in myself; I wanted to grow and
make my roots strong. As I continued, I attended the St.Paul Armenian Saturday School  for about six
years. For the first time, I connected to my people, I improved my Armenian writing and reading skills,
and build close relationships with my teachers. The teachers taught me always to remain Armenian
and Christian by not forgetting who I am and where I came from.I grow my spirituality by
actively be involved at St. Paul Armenian Apostolic Church. I participate in the morning services, a part
of the church choir and a member of the Armenian Church Youth Organization (ACYO).

In June 2009, I graduated from Bullard High school. Throughout my four years of high school, I was
very active in the Armenian club both at Hoover and Bullard High School. With the help of great
advisors, I was able to organize club activities: arrange group meetings, Armenian Olympics games,
Christmas parties, bake sales and design Armenian Genocide t-shirts. I am currently attending Fresno
State University and carrying on my leadership with the Armenian Students Organization. I am
majoring in pre-nursing and minoring in Armenian Studies. I want to become a registered nurse in
order to contribute to my community and make a difference. Being an active member of Armenian
studies program and Armenian Students Organization, my goal is to motivate Armenians to come
together as a well-known organization, participate in events, and grow as a community at Fresno
State. I have realized clubs and church organizations brighten Armenians and unite them together as
a team.

I have completed my third year of volunteering and co-hosting the HyeOozh Radio Show. When I was
given the opportunity to join 90.7FM, I was in the shock but very excited because I knew this would
give me the privilege to grow even closer to my roots. The HyeOozh Show has been like a big journey
and has taught me a lot of things about who I am. I have learned hosting a radio show or djing is not
very easy but it makes it very easy when you have amazing listeners that keep you rolling each
morning. Thanks to our listeners, the Hyeoozh show was found and still continues. It is a great
experience being part of an Armenian radio show because it gives me the courage to express the
Armenian language, culture, and pride. Being a DJ gives me the ability to communicate with the
audience and understand what they want to hear or how they feel each morning.I have always believed
that cultural music has a big impact on our parents; it expresses their feelings and connects them to
their childhood with the lyrics. However, the music makes an even bigger impact on young children
today, connecting them to the definition of what it means to be Armenian. Armenian is who are and
this radio show expressed its meaning every Saturday morning. What I really like about being part of
this program is all the excitement we receive from our listeners, our songs and our hearts. It is an
amazing feeling to brighten someones day with the sound of music and hear how much we are
appreciated. Yes, at times we face difficulties and confusion, but we are learning and getting even
more powerful each time.

A special thank you to Tatevik Ekezian for giving me this opportunity! Thank you for encouraging,
supporting and training us week after week to become better hosts. Thank you for teaching us the
correct way to speak and gain proper Armenian words. With few words I want to say how wonderful
Tatevik is from inside and out. Tatevik has hosted the Hyeoozh show for many years and has left it to
our hands to continue her hard word and dedication. We are here to make her proud and as well as
our audience every Saturday morning from 9AM til' noon. I can't imagine the HyeOozh Show without
her; she'll always remain our big sister!! Thank you Tatevik and thank you KFSR!!

Sincerely,

I'm Vartush Mesropyan
I was born on December 9, 1990 in Yerevan, Armenia. In the
year of 1992 my family and I came to the United States. We
lived in Los Angeles for about eight years then in October of
2000 we moved to Fresno, California. Los Angeles was where
I spend my childhood life finding new friends and getting use
to the life style of America. But thankfully as I was growing up
in a traditional family  I was able to catch quickly in Fresno
and learn to be proud of my culture and believe that there was
more to the word Armenian; strength, power, and growth.

Living in Fresno, was very difficult for my family and I because
everything seemed so new to us. We did not have our relatives
to support or comfort us as we got used to this new place.
Fresno was where I began my  new life, I kept my childhood
memories strong as I started to build new ones.
