Khanzadian Kazan Visiting Professor in Armenian Studies, * Three Public Lectures on the Armenian Genocide * University Business Center, Peters Auditorium, Rm. 191, Fresno State Lecture II- March 11, Thursday, 7:30pm "The loud cry: early responses to the genocide in armenian literature" The immediate literary responses to the genocide- perpetrated at the turn of the 20th century by the Turkish authorities against the Armenian people- came as a loud cry echoing the outcry of a suffering people. The lecture surveys some of these early responses by the most prominent Armenian writers of the time, both in Europe and in the Middle East. Lecture III- April 29, Thursday, 7:30pm "the less- known victims of the armenian genocide Following a brief introduction to the less-known martyred writers of the 1915 Armenian genocide, this lecture dwells on the seldom-mentioned victims of the annihilating policy, including those who ceases to be productive after being tortured and those who converted in Islam so as to survive. | The Armenian Studies Program of California State University, Fresno will hold its 22nd Annual Banquet Sunday, March 21, 2010 Fort Washington Golf and Country Club 10272 N. Millbrook, in Fresno. Reception will begin at 5:00PM followed by the Banquet at 6:00PM This year’s Banquet will feature the United States premiere of a film, “William Saroyan’s Will,” directed by Grigor Harutyunyan. The Armenian Studies Banquet brings together Fresno State students, faculty, and administrators and the community, to celebrate the achievements of the Program and the students. More than forty-five student recipients of Armenian Studies scholarships and grants for 2009-2010 will be recognized at the Banquet. During the past several decades the Program has gained national and international recognition, for its wide range of courses offered, research conducted by faculty, and for student involvement in a variety of programs.
